CONTEMPORARY AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE PAINTER

Hobie Porter creates hyper-realistic oil paintings of the Australian landscape, manipulating his imagery to facilitate a reaction of disbelief.

His paintings simultaneously depict the sublime experience of the panoramic view and the intimacy of its miniscule components. While everything retains a sharp focus, he utilises these extremes of scale to approach a sense of the marvellous.

Hobie is interested in visually representing land and atmosphere as an integrated whole. His paintings facilitate aesthetic and cultural understandings of land as a connected ecosystem. He is particularly concerned with civilisation's role and relationship within it's surrounding environment.
